Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the bread flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk the egg with the granulated sugar until blended and set aside.
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and gently add the yogurt. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms (about 30 seconds).
- Lightly flour your work surface and turn the shaggy dough out onto it. Knead for 1-2 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a circle approximately 1/2-inch thick.
- Using a pastry brush, apply a generous layer of your prepared egg wash to the top of each bagel, and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning if desired.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 27-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Store your bagels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, freeze for up to 3 months.
