Pastry

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large pot over high heat, combine the sliced apples and water. Cook for about 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften.
  2. Add the room temperature butter to the pot and stir until it’s completely melted.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Gradually add this to the apple mixture, stirring constantly for about 2 minutes or until thickened.
  4. Preheat your oven to 400°F.
Assembly
  1. Pour the apple mixture into a 10-inch cast iron skillet, ensuring it's evenly distributed.
  2. On a clean work surface, brush the beaten egg over the thawed puff pastry. Cut into 16 equal squares and arrange over the apple filling in a circular pattern.
Baking
  1. Bake for 27-30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed, browned, and the filling is bubbly.
  2. Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
