- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly for about 5-7 minutes until it turns golden brown and releases a nutty aroma.
- Remove from heat and cool the butter for about 5 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, sift together 3 cups of powdered sugar and the pinch of salt.
- Pour the slightly cooled browned butter into the bowl of powdered sugar, then add the vanilla extract.
- Mix with a hand mixer on medium speed until the frosting comes together, adding milk or cream as needed for consistency.
- Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or bars.
Notes
Store leftover frosting in the fridge for up to one week. Re-whip before using. Can be made up to three days in advance.
