- In a medium saucepan, heat the eggnog over medium heat, stirring occasionally until it reaches a gentle simmer (about 5-7 minutes).
- Remove the saucepan from heat and add the chocolate chips. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth (about 2-3 minutes).
- If using, stir in the spiced rum until thoroughly combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a heatproof bowl or pitcher. Serve immediately for a warm drink or cover and refrigerate for about an hour for a chilled version.
Serving
- Pour into decorative mugs and garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings before serving.
Notes
For a more festive touch, add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg alongside chocolate shavings. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
