Ingredients

Cocktail Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed) For optimal flavor
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar For rim and sweetness
  • 3 ounces dry gin A smooth gin like Hendrick's is recommended
  • 1/4 cup cranberry juice Look for 100% juice for the best taste
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup Can be made at home by dissolving sugar in equal parts water
  • ice cubes Crushed ice adds extra chill
  • club soda To top off and add sparkle
  • sugared cranberries For garnish
  • 1 sprig rosemary Adds a fragrant garnish

Method

Prepare the Glasses
  1. Set out two small plates. Pour lemon juice on the first plate and sprinkle granulated sugar on the second. Wet the rim of each lowball glass with lemon juice, then dip into the sugar to coat. Set aside.
Mix the Cocktail
  1. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine gin, cranberry juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.
Build the Drink
  1. Fill each sugared glass with ice. Strain half of the gin mixture into each glass and top with club soda.
Garnish and Serve
  1. Adorn each glass with sugared cranberries and a sprig of rosemary. Serve immediately.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh. For extra flair, consider a rim of crushed candy canes instead of sugar. Avoid diluting the cocktail by serving promptly.
