Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise Use best-quality mayonnaise for the richest flavor. Recommended brands include Hellmann's or Duke's.
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or full-fat Greek yogurt Choose plain for the best results.
  • 3 tbsp minced fresh dill Fresh is key! Dried dill will not yield the same freshness.
  • 1 1/2 tbsp lemon juice Freshly squeezed lemon juice brightens the flavors.
  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon zest Adds an extra layer of citric goodness.
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt Plus more to taste.
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper Freshly ground delivers the best flavor.
  • 1 tbsp cream or milk Optional, for a looser sauce.

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather your ingredients, ensuring they are at room temperature for the best mixing.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, sour cream, minced dill, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, and pepper using a whisk for a smooth texture without lumps.
  3. If you prefer a thinner sauce, add the cream or milk at this stage and stir until you reach your desired consistency.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust the salt or pepper according to your preference.
  5. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 10 minutes before serving to enhance the flavor.
  6. Drizzle generously over grilled or roasted salmon and enjoy!

Notes

For storing, keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge where it will last for about 3-5 days. You can prepare this sauce up to 3 days in advance. It can also be used as a dip for vegetables, on chicken, or as a sandwich spread.
