For the Matcha Base
  • 2.5 tsp matcha powder Choose a high-quality ceremonial grade for the best flavor
  • 3 tbsp hot water Not boiling—around 175°F/80°C is ideal to prevent bitterness
  • 1 cup warm water Can be adjusted to taste
For Assembly
  • Ice cubes Ice cubes Fresh or from filtered water for optimal taste
  • 1 cup milk Any kind: dairy, almond, oat, or coconut works beautifully
  • 1 tsp honey Local honey is a great option for added flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Measure out 2.5 teaspoons of matcha powder into a small bowl. Pour in 3 tablespoons of hot water and whisk vigorously for 30-45 seconds until smooth.
  2. Stir in 1 cup of warm water to fully combine, aiming for a smooth consistency.
  3. Transfer your matcha mixture to the freezer and chill for about 15 minutes.
Assembly
  1. In a tall glass, fill it about three-quarters full with ice. Pour in your choice of milk until it reaches just below the rim.
  2. Stir in 1 teaspoon of honey to your warm milk and adjust sweetness to your liking.
  3. Pour the chilled matcha base over the ice and milk mixture. Stir gently until fully blended and serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure your ingredients are measured accurately. Store any leftover mixture in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. This recipe can be made vegan by using plant-based milk.
