For the Meatballs
  • 1 lb ground turkey Look for lean options, usually around 93% lean / 7% fat for the best balance of moisture.
  • 1/3 cup onion, finely diced Use yellow or sweet onions for a milder flavor.
  • 4 tbsp fresh herbs (parsley and basil) Fresh herbs elevate the flavor profile; feel free to experiment.
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder For that subtly sweet kick.
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder Intensifies the onion flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano A classic Italian touch.
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper Ground fresh for the best taste.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil You can substitute with avocado oil.
  • 3/4 tsp red pepper flakes Adjust according to your heat preference.
  • 1 tsp salt Essential for flavor.
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated Real cheese makes a difference.
  • 1/3 cup gluten-free breadcrumbs Ensure finely ground for the best texture.
  • 1 egg room temperature Incorporates better when at room temperature.

Method
 

Preheat and Prep
  1. Set your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mixing the Ingredients
  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground turkey, finely diced onion, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, black pepper, red pepper flakes, salt, half of the parmesan cheese, and gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  2. Mix with your hands for even distribution of flavors.
  3. Beat the egg in a small bowl, and gently fold it into the turkey mixture.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Scoop about 1.5 tablespoons of the mixture and roll into balls.
  2. Place the meatballs on the lined baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart.
  3. Lightly drizzle olive oil over the top of the meatballs.
Final Bake
  1. Bake for 22-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  2. Allow them to sit for 2-3 minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. You can also prep the meatballs ahead of time and store them in the fridge or freezer uncooked.
