  • 1 gallon fresh apple cider Look for high-quality, non-filtered cider for the best flavor.
  • 1 medium orange, sliced unpeeled The zest and the juice will add bright, citrusy notes.
  • 3 sticks cinnamon I recommend using true Ceylon cinnamon for a more complex flavor.
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed Adjust to your preference.
  • 1 cup whiskey, adjusted to taste Recommended: Bulleit Bourbon or your go-to brand.
  • apple slices, for garnish Fresh slices enhance flavor and presentation.
  • extra cinnamon sticks, for garnish Add for presentation.

Preparation
  1. Gather all your ingredients.
  2. Ensure your apple cider is at room temperature for easier heating.
Cooking
  1. In a large pot over medium heat, pour in the fresh apple cider. Add orange slices and cinnamon sticks.
  2. Allow the cider to bubble and simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. After flavors have developed, remove the pot from heat. Use tongs to remove cinnamon sticks and orange slices.
  5. Stir in the whiskey according to your taste preference.
  6. Pour the warm spiked cider into mugs, adding apple slices and a cinnamon stick for garnish.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also freeze it for future cozy nights. To serve, gently reheat the cider.
