Ingredients
  

For the Pie Crust
  • 2 boxes store-bought pastry Alternatively, use homemade pie crust.
For the Filling
  • 2 cups mashed sweet potatoes Use freshly cooked sweet potatoes.
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed Adds sweetness and moisture.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon Essential for flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg Enhances warmth of spices.
For Frying and Glazing
  • Canola oil For frying, or bake/air fry for healthier option.
  • 3 cups confectioners' sugar For glazing.
  • 6-9 tablespoons whole milk Adjust for desired glaze consistency.

Method
 

Prepare the Filling
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes with light brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until fully blended.
Roll Out the Crust
  1. On a floured surface, roll out the pie crust to 1/8-inch thick and cut into 4-5 inch rounds.
Fill the Pies
  1. Place 1 tablespoon of filling on one side of each round, fold, seal with water, and crimp edges.
Fry Them Up
  1. Heat oil to 375°F and fry 2-3 pies until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
Glaze Them
  1. Whisk confectioners' sugar with milk until smooth and pourable.
Coat the Hand Pies
  1. While warm, coat each hand pie with glaze and rest on a wire rack.
Baking Option
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and bake for 15-17 minutes until golden brown.
Air Fryer Option
  1. Place in air fryer at 360°F for 6-8 minutes until golden.

Notes

Ensure oil is heated properly for frying and don’t skip crimping to avoid leakage.
