  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature Use high-quality butter for the best flavor; can substitute with coconut or plant-based butter.
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar Adds sweetness to balance the spices.
  • 1 tablespoon molasses Essential for gingerbread flavor; honey can be a substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch kosher salt Enhances all sweet flavors.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine room-temperature unsalted butter and confectioners' sugar. Mix on medium speed for about 1 to 2 minutes until smooth and creamy.
  2. Increase the mixer speed to high and whip for 5 to 7 minutes until the mixture is light and airy, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  3. Lower the speed back to low, then gradually mix in molasses, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, and kosher salt. Blend for about another minute until fully incorporated.
  4. Serve immediately or shape the butter into a log, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to three months. Prepare ahead to allow flavors to meld.
